Southern corn rust has been confirmed in Jackson County, Florida, near the southwestern Georgia border. As of this morning (June 9th 2025), it has been CONFIRMED in the southwestern part of Seminole County, GA. That means that southern corn rust is here in GA. SW GA famers should be vigilant and be prepared to sprayed, this week is going to leave us with the perfect weather conditions for rust.

Early detection is important, as southern corn rust can develop rapidly under favorable weather conditions, posing a serious threat to corn yields.

Georgia growers should remain vigilant and continue scouting corn fields regularly for signs of rust. UGA Extension sentinel plots are being closely monitored, and coordinated scouting efforts are ongoing across the state by Extension agents and private crop consultants.
